Government could save slots with British help

THE Government could permanently secure Shannon’s Heathrow slots by gaining the co-operation of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, it emerged last night.

A novel solution to the airport’s imminent loss of its Heathrow service was last night floated by Fine Gael TD for Limerick East Kieran O’Donnell.

He said that the Government could impose — using European Union regulations — a public service obligation on the Shannon to Heathrow service.
