HORSE power took over in Castleisland yesterday, with cars and lorries having to wait, or move aside, as spit-in-the-hand, equine dealings went ahead.

Gardaí had issued early warnings to drivers to avoid the Co Kerry town if at all possible, as thousands of people were due to go to the annual horse fair.

There were long traffic tailbacks on roads leading to the town.
