THE extensive changes to 24 constituencies received widespread criticism last night, with opposition parties branding it a missed opportunity.

Responding to the expansive review of the 43 constituencies, Labour leader Eamon Gilmore said the report of the Constituency Commission would further undermine the element of proportionality in the electoral system. It was argued that larger constituencies provide for greater fairness and a greater degree of proportionality.
