Mine workers secure 16% pay rise

WORKERS at the Galmoy lead-zinc mine in Kilkenny have secured a 16% pay rise five months after they started industrial action.

The action arose amid claims from the unions that the company had not instituted pay rises which it said it would put in place by July 2006.

As a result, the TEEU and SIPTU said their members were being paid significantly below the appropriate industry rate.
