SIPTU attacks abuse of agency staff by employers

SIPTU yesterday warned that employers are using agency workers to launch a major attack on employment standards across Ireland so they can use cheap labour to maximise profits.

SIPTU regional secretary Patricia King told the union’s biennial delegate conference in Tralee that certain industries, particularly construction, retail/distribution, hotels and aviation are now using agency workers “par norm”.

“The reality is that the employers use them to bring in the labour so they can divest themselves of any responsibility for the workers,” Ms King said.
