Students scoop laptops for thinking green

A SMALL Cork school with a big ‘green’ reputation has won a competition run by renewable energy company Airtricity.

Students scoop laptops for thinking green

Rylane National School was presented with two top-of-the-range Dell laptop computers following its success in Airtricity’s Greenzone design a poster competition.

Primary school children from all over Ireland were invited to submit entries which showed their artistic creativity while also conveying a positive environmental message.

Rylane NS pupils Ellen Smith, Caprice McCartney, Kirsty Long and Lorraine Horgan designed a poster which judges deemed a winner in their category.

Airtricity’s David Brown said the standard of entry in this year’s competition was very high.

“Wind energy is our future and at Airtricity we believe it is very important to educate children from an early age on the value of renewable energy,” he said.

“Through the Greenzone website children can access information on how renewable energy works and the benefits of harnessing our abundant wind resource.

“It was impressive to witness first hand the level of knowledge the children already hold in the workings and benefits of renewable energy.”

Airtricity’s Greenzone website at greenzone.airtricity.com covers environmental issues like climate change and global warming as well as the benefits of renewable energy.
