THE taxman has clawed back €2.3 billion in unpaid taxes from thousands of Ireland’s richest men and women, with at least a further €245m to come.

Revenue officials are probing offshore bank accounts, bogus non-resident savings schemes as well as other large-scale tax evasion scams dating back to the early 1980s.

The Revenue’s team of tax evasion investigators is trawling through bank records, personal tax files as well as other financial documents to recoup taxes due to the State.
