THE number of unfilled jobs in the construction industry is at its lowest level since records began in 2002, showing no end in sight for the building industry’s slowdown.

Around 5% of firms in the building industry had vacancies last month compared to 10% in July and also a year ago.

Dwindling numbers of vacancies indicates lower demand for builders’ services as firms make jobs redundant, lay off staff or decide they cannot risk taking on more workers.
