GARDAÍ are investigating the tragic death of a Junior Certificate schoolgirl who lost her life on a railway line moments after getting her exam results.

The girl was from Donabate in north Dublin, and had received 10 honours. She was named locally as Mannik Murphy, who has Sri Lankan roots.

The 15-year-old girl had received her exam results just minutes before the tragedy in north Dublin.

The teenager was a pupil at St Dominic’s High School, Santa Sabina, in Sutton.

The Garda investigation is attempting to establish how she was hit by the train just north of Howth Junctionat about 11am on Wednesday.

Irish Rail confirmed a young woman died after being struck by the 10.25am commuter train travelling from Connolly Station to Drogheda.

The HSE has been in contact with the school and is making counselling services available to both teachers and students affected by the tragedy.

Yesterday, gardaí were examining CCTV footage taken at Howth station as part of their investigation.
