THE lights and heating will be turned off in parts of Munster’s largest hospital to help rein in a €4 million budget over-run.

Staff at Cork University Hospital, which includes the new state-of-the-art maternity hospital, have been asked to turn off the lights in rooms not in use, and turn the heating off in store rooms and corridors, in an effort to curb spending and balance the budget before the end of the year.

Managers with responsibility for buying supplies have also been asked to negotiate better deals with suppliers.
