Vulnerable sand dune protection works kick off

With summer at an end, the public have a chance to help keep the beach clean for future use.

Those attending the event will “sweep” the beach clean and also take part in a grass-planting exercise on the dunes’ system.

The project, organised by the T-Bay Surf and Eco Centre gets underway at 11am.

The centre’s Eric Randall, said: “Summer is over, the crowds are gone, and it’s time to put the beach back in order for our own community’s continued use,”

There will also be updates on the dune restoration project initiated by Waterford Co Council this summer.

They will be also invited, for a presentation on restoration projects. “The dunes are a fragile and valuable resource and it is time we learn more about their importance and protection for the continued enjoyment of future generations,” said Mr Randall. A competition will also take place between local and Welsh surfers finishing their 2007 Irish-Welsh cultural surf exchange.
