Irish short to get national screening
The award-winning two-minute show Teeth, starring Niall Tobin, will open before the movie feature Hallam Foe when it goes out at cinemas later this month.
The “last laugh” tale of two old friends, their teeth and a series of events that leaves them lost for words has already scooped the Best Irish Short at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh.
The black and white short will run at the Palm Springs Film Festival in LA, the Sapporo Short Film Festival in Japan, and the Festival Du Cinema in Canada.
Directed by 3D artist John Kennedy and freelance cameraman Ruairi O’Brien, the film was shot on location in Glendalough in Co Wicklow.
It was produced as part of the short film scheme Short Shorts funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/Irish Film Board.
Other Irish short films attracting global attention include Blind Man’s Eye, directed by Matthew Talbot, which is the only Irish film selected for the prestigious Venice International Film festival at the end of the month.
Deep Breaths, directed by acclaimed cinematographer PJ Dillon, will screen at the Montreal Film Festival and at the Palm Springs festival later this month.
Another Irish short screening at Palm Springs is Flyboy, directed by Keelan O’Rourke.
