ESB customers furious over lengthy power cuts
Around 60 houses were left without electricity in the Killavullen area while a similar number were affected in Ringaskiddy, Shanbally and Rafeen.
Pádraig Barry, a father-of-two young children, who lives in Killavullen said houses there lost power at around 6pm on Tuesday.
He was later told by the ESB that supply would not be restored until yesterday afternoon.
“There was no storm that I know about or no disaster. I don’t think a terrorist bomb went off — if it did we might be without power for weeks,” Mr Barry said.
An ESB spokesman apologised for the outages. He said that a transformer blew up in the Ringaskiddy area and believed a similar problem was responsible for problems in Killavullen.
Power was cut in the Ringaskiddy area shortly before midnight on Tuesday and it was expected that all householders affected would have supply restored by 4pm yesterday.
The spokesman said there were practical reasons why it was taking time to restore supply.
“It is difficult for our crews to work in darkness, especially from a health and safety point of view,” the spokesman said.
“I know it is inconvenient to customers but our priority is always to restore power as quickly and safely as possible,” the spokesman added.
