THE vast majority of a wedding party who suffered severe vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach pains following the reception at a mid-west hotel did so as the result of an outbreak of gastrointestinal disease, a medical report has concluded.

The report revealed that 98 people who experienced symptoms, including projectile vomiting, had fallen victim to a norovirus — the general term for an infection which causes gastroenteritis or ‘stomach flu’.

The report firmly ruled out that the infection, which occurred last October, resulted from food poisoning or problems with the water at the hotel but was, instead, passed from person-to-person.
