GARDAÍ have a “total inability” to apologise to people when they make genuine mistakes, the head of a Garda watchdog said yesterday.

Gordon Holmes, chairman of the Garda Síochána Complaints Board (GSCB), said this failure has resulted in the State being sued in the courts.

Launching the GSCB 2006 annual report, Mr Holmes also strongly criticised Garda Commissioner Noel Conroy for not taking action against the bulk of cases referred to him involving minor breaches of discipline by gardaí.
