Job cuts possible as council income falls

JOB losses and cutbacks to Cork’s refuse collection service could be on the cards after a massive slump in council income.

Almost 3,000 customers have deserted the city’s refuse collection system for private operators, councillors were told last night.

This is despite the city being just 50 cent per week more expensive than the private sector, city manager Joe Gavin said.
