Tragic mother and baby to be buried together

Nollaig Owen (née Kenneally) and her nine-month-old son Tadhg died on Saturday morning in the River Douglas.

Mrs Owen, aged 33, had been suffering from post-natal depression and drowned her son before drowning herself. They were pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts at resuscitation.

Mrs Owen’s husband Gareth had flown in from London the previous night where he has been working since the family relocated from South Africa.

Both mother and son were waked together in the same coffin at the Kenneally family, Main Street, Kilworth, for the past two nights. At 2.30 this afternoon they will be brought to St Martin’s Church in Kilworth for funeral Mass.

Afterwards their bodies will be brought to Kilcrumper New Cemetery where they will be buried beside Mrs Owen’s father Donal Kenneally.

Traffic restrictions will be in place and the family have requested privacy.
