Grant to foster fraternité between research teams

AS France today celebrates Bastille Day, a relationship based on fraternité has been struck up between Irish and French researchers.

The 2008 Ulysses programme will see grants of up to €2,500 to Irish and French researchers to support visits linked to mutual research projects.

The Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology will fund science, engineering and technology applications while the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences, will fund applications in humanities, the social sciences, business and law.

The Ulysses scheme facilitates the exchange of innovative ideas and approaches between Irish and French researchers and the development of mutual research projects by supporting Irish researchers to visit France and French researchers’ visits to Ireland. It also provides for the organisation of research workshops which bring together researchers from France and Ireland for the purpose of establishing research networks.

Support is provided for short visits to partner institutions and covers travel and subsistence costs. Applications from researchers at an early stage of their academic career and from researchers in the humanities and social sciences are particularly encouraged.

The closing date for receipt of applications is October 1, 2007.
