Answers sought after body find

GARDAÍ said last night that they were keeping an open mind on how a 24-year-old man met his death in Kinsale, Co Cork.

Answers sought after body find

The body, floating in the inner harbour, adjacent to the main quay, was found by a passer-by at 6.05am yesterday.

Inspector Brendan Fogarty, who is leading the investigation, said that gardaí believed the man was from the southside of Cork city, but would not be releasing his name until all his relatives had been informed.

He added the man had not been reported missing.

Emergency services recovered the man’s body and he was pronounced dead at the scene by a local doctor.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out today by assistant state pathologist, Dr Margaret Bolster.

Insp Fogarty said gardaí were anxious to speak to anybody who may have been in Kinsale between 3am and 6am yesterday and seen a man fitting the deceased’s description.

The dead man is described as being approximately 5ft 10in and of heavy build. He was wearing a dark tracksuit with a grey ‘hoody’ top, blue shirt and white runners.

He had crewcut black hair and a couple of days’ growth of stubble.
