Car costs surge by almost 25% in 5 years

MOTORISTS have seen day-to-day costs of running a car rise by almost 25% in five years, new figures show.

In 2002, the cost of running a typical family car worked out at €2,499 annually for fuel, servicing and repairs.

This year, that figure had risen to €3,098, a rise of 24%, because of rising petrol, maintenance and tyre costs.
