THE end of a 125-year era in education on the Cork/Kerry border will be reached this week with the closure of two very old schools, which are being replaced by an amalgamated school.

Pupils from the Presentation Convent primary school in Rathmore, and the nearby St Joseph’s Boys’ national school are moving into the new €2.5m school building.

The Presentation school dates to 1882, while St Joseph’s was built in 1934. As classroom and office equipment was being moved into the new building yesterday, teachers, pupils and parents looked to the future.
