Car costs: families paying extra €18 as petrol prices soar

PETROL prices have risen by a staggering 12% since the start of the year with the average family now paying an extra €18 a month to run their car, the Automobile Association (AA) revealed last night.

The AA figures show that the average price of a litre of unleaded petrol is now 115.9 cents, up by 4.8c on April’s figure and up 12.5c since January.

Diesel is now 108.5c a litre, up 1.7c on April and up 5c since the new year.
