Streisand fans snap up pricey tickets

FANS of singer Barbra Streisand have snapped up 12,000 tickets to see the star perform the only Irish show of her summer European tour — despite official ticket prices as high as €552.

Yesterday, promoters MCD said extra seating was being planned for the July 14 concert at Kildare’s Castletown House.

“The original allocation of around 12,000 tickets sold out the weekend they went on sale,” said MCD spokesman Justin Green.

“We had to suspend our advertising for the show but we are now getting additional seats freed up so we can now sell tickets again.”

Advertising for the gig has resumed after production staff at the venue identified space for extra seats.

The star of hit songs like Woman in Love has come under fire for official ticket prices ranging from €118.50 to €551.75 for the Kildare concert, one of eight European shows.

But ticket prices for her shows in Britain, Italy and Austria are even higher, with fans in Rome being asked an eye-watering €914 each for the best seats.

In Vienna, fans are paying up to €718 while prices for concert-goers flocking to London for her three dates are as high as €879.

The promoters have defended the steep prices, saying Streisand rarely tours and her status as an artist is on a par with Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley.
