Riverfest attracts 40,000 into Limerick

LIMERICK’S huge Riverfest which drew up to 40,000 revellers into the city over the holiday weekend finishes today.

During the festivities the Mayor of Limerick Cllr Joe Leddin assumed one of his office’s oldest titles, Admiral of the Shannon.

The 400-year-old title bestows the mayor the power to act as judge over all maritime offences committed on the River Shannon from the city right down to the mouth of the estuary. Poaching is one of the main maritime offences the mayor has control over.
