Gardaí seize €300,000 worth of cocaine
The haul was the result of a surveillance operation on a trafficking gang based in Finglas.
Armed officers raided a house in the area and found four kilograms of cocaine.
A garda spokesman said: “Gardaí from Finglas have arrested a 20-year-old male following the seizure of four kilos of cocaine and a very small quantity of crack cocaine at a house in Finglas.”
He said the operation was conducted by the Garda National Drugs Unit and the Finglas Drugs Unit.
“The seizure, depending on the analysis of the substances seized, may have a potential street value of €300,000,” he said.
Garda sources also said 10 bags were found containing a crystallised substance, believed to be crack cocaine, but stressed that this had to be verified by laboratory tests.
The small bags were for individual deals. Such deals of crack are believed to sell for around €50-€70 each.
Garda sources said the suspected presence of crack, albeit of a small amount, was of serious concern. Gardaí say the crack is manufactured in Ireland.
Garda sources said young man arrested in the house “worked for the gang” and was involved in mixing and distributing the cocaine.
