Hour-long protest ‘went very well’

MORE than 300 people took part in yesterday’s hour-long stoppage by nurses at St Ita’s Psychiatric Service in Dublin.

Hour-long protest ‘went very well’

Mary Kenneally of the Psychiatric Nurses’ Association said: “It went extremely well. In excess of 300 people, including off-duty nurses from the hospital and off-duty nurses from other facilities as far away as Dundalk, took part in the action.”

She said full services were maintained and extra levels of care were provided in the acute areas of the hospital.

“There was a delay in community services, but they were rectified in the afternoon,” she said.

Ms Kenneally said the action attracted attention from local public representatives. “If they want our votes they are going to have to bring our case to their leaders.”

The Health Service Executive said the action caused little disruption because contingency plans had been put in place.
