Sheridan’s niece reels in husband with perfect wedding

Tara Rafferty, of Ballyvourney, Co Cork, needed no direction from her world-renowned uncle, Jim Sheridan, yesterday before she walked down the aisle to marry Englishman Mark Towler. The couple tied the knot in front of 120 close family and friends in St Gobnait’s church, Ballyvourney, and they did it all on the first take.

The Dublin-born award-winning film director embraced his niece outside side the church while enjoying unseasonal sunshine for an April wedding.

Jim Sheridan’s filmography includes My Left Foot (1989), The Field (1990), In the Name of the Father (1993), The Boxer (1997) and In America (2003).

Jim’s sister and mother of the bride Ita Rafferty spoke after the church ceremony ended and the party headed for photographs on the beaches near Clonakilty.

“It was really lovely, the groom’s father, Noel Towler, sang really nice versions of Love Changes Everything and Ave Maria, there was wonderful violin playing by the O’Loasa Sisters.

“The weather was really nice. It is a great day,” she said.

Stunning Tara wore a traditional bridal gown and veil and was walked up the aisle by her father Ken.

The couple met in the University of Limerick where Mark, who is originally from Derby in England, works as research scientist.

Tara had completed her degree at University College Cork and was studying for a masters degree in French at the time.

That was four years ago and the couple have been together since.

Tara now works as a French teacher at Coláiste Ghobnatan in Ballyvourney.
