THE coffins of two young Castleisland road accident victims lay side by side in the local parish church, last night, after thousands of mourners attended the removal of their remains.

People queued for hours to pay their last respects to Freddie Ryan, 31, and Patrick (Pa) O’Reilly, 26, who were among three men killed in a two-car crash near Castleisland, on Sunday.

Some people wept openly and the victims’ distraught families were comforted by relatives and friends.

Large crowds of mourners filed silently past the remains of Freddie Ryan for several hours at Tangney’s funeral home.

The situation was similar in Barrett’s funeral home where the Patrick O’Reilly lay in repose.

The remains of both men were removed to the Church of St Stephen and St John, Castleisland.

A funeral Mass for Freddie Ryan will be celebrated in the church at 11am today and Patrick O’Reilly’s funeral Mass will be at 1pm. Both men are to be buried in Castleisland.

Huge crowds also flocked to Listowel last evening, for the removal of the remains of, Jason Tolan, 18, Kilmorna, Listowel who also died in the accident.

His funeral Mass will be in St Brigid’s church, Duagh, at 11am today, with burial afterwards.

Gardaí, meanwhile, are continuing their investigations into the head-on crash, which occurred at Ahaneboy, on the Castleisland/Abbeyfeale road, at about 10.30am, on Sunday.

Gardaí have also named the man killed in Monday night’s car crash in Co Carlow.

Dermot Murray, 20, from Mill Road, Bunclody, Co Wexford, died in a single vehicle accident at Boggin Hill, Ballon, shortly after 11.30pm.

Two other male occupants of the car were uninjured.
