Gardaí urge ‘emergency’ response to gang crime

GARDAÍ are to urge the Government to declare a “national emergency” in response to gang violence.

Officers attending a conference want a “civic forum” set up to examine increasing violence, including gangland crime, and draw up a plan to combat it.

Delegates will discuss these and other motions at the annual conference of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors in Wexford over the next three days.
