WHILE medical equipment remains idle in storage at Cork University Hospital, a man who had to wait almost one week for a life saving operation was airlifted to the Beaumont Hospital in Dublin yesterday.

Noel O’Connor, a 32-year-old professional driver from Carlow, has been suffering from a potentially fatal brain aneurysm since Friday last when he was struck down with severe headaches.

He was rushed to St Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny where the problem was diagnosed, but the hospital was unable to carry out the necessary procedure because they did not have the equipment for keyhole surgery.
