Greencore plan backed on condition of jobs before housing

JOBS before houses was the message sent by Cork County Council to Greencore yesterday, as the local authority examined a blueprint for growth in Mallow up to 2020.

Councillors agreed in principle to adopt a Special Local Area Plan (SLAP) for the town, which includes proposals from Greencore for a €500 million redevelopment of the former sugar factory.

The company has proposed to build offices and commercial and retail centres on the 398-acre site, while creating 2,000 new jobs.
