You’re a star: odds-on favourite wins final

BOOKIES favourite David O’Connor sang his way to a life-changing career in music after being voted winner of this year’s You’re A Star competition last night.

You’re a star: odds-on favourite wins final

The 26-year-old picked up an exclusive recording deal with Universal Music Group and a publishing agreement with Sony, which should help make up for the disappointment of bowing out of his former job as a jockey after an accident.

The Wexford man’s victory came at the expense of Dublin group 21 Demands, who took part in the final live televised sing-off at The Helix theatre in Dublin just hours earlier.

The public phone voting confirmed the odds placed by bookmakers on the outcome, with David emerging as the punters’ clear favourite when he went out from 4-7 to 1-10 after his teatime performance last night.

David is no stranger to big competitions, having previously represented Ireland in the World Karaoke Championships in Finland three years ago. His own musical interests range from Meatloaf to Ronan Keating, but he is set to have a chance at international stardom thanks to the top prize he scooped last night.

David’s single, On Borrowed Wings, will be available as a download from Friday, and from record shops a week later.
