PARENTS, children and some management board members from St Francis’s National School in Kenmare, yesterday handed in a letter of protest to Dr Bill Murphy, Bishop of Kerry, in Killarney.

The parents said they were disappointed at the sacking of the management board by Education Minister Mary Hanafin at the request of school patron Bishop Murphy. The bishop asked the minister to dissolve the board after it failed to agree to teacher appointments.

The parents, who staged a public protest when Taoiseach Bertie Ahern visited Kenmare, said they had been left without a voice in their children’s education.
