Making scents: Irish men need to smell better

A LEADING deodorant manufacturer has unveiled shocking new research — guys should spend more money to smell good.

The telling statistics are contained in a Lynx-sponsored study which found Eau de Irishman was not finding favour with the female population.

Worse still, lads are not making enough of an effort in general grooming and are lagging far behind the men from Latin countries.

The company’s marketing manager Ann Marie O’Riordan said its research, which found 62% of Irish women are attracted to guys who smell good, was not designed simply to advertise the ‘Lynx Effect’.

“Obviously we would be encouraging guys to smell better and it would be great if they picked Lynx but this is about the wider range of products,” she said.

Researchers interviewed 200 women in Limerick, Dublin, Cork, and Galway.

The vast majority said they notice when a man smells good and 23% have told a complete stranger they were impressed by his aroma.

Guys in Cork and Limerick faired out worse than their Dublin counterparts when it came to general grooming. In Galway only 4% of women think men smell better now than ever.

However, the real difference is between the Irishmen and the more ‘exotic’ members of the species.

Half of Irishwomen think French, Spanish and Italian men look after themselves better and in Limerick the ladies are particularly impressed with Americans.

The research was carried out last month among women aged between 18 and 28 years of age by market researchers from Tradewins.
