Bruton ‘warned TD off garda corruption fight’

FORMER Fine Gael TD Jim Higgins, who championed the McBrearty family’s fight against garda corruption, was warned off the cause by former Taoiseach John Bruton, it was claimed yesterday.

The MEP took up the Donegal family’s fight in June 2000 after receiving allegations by fax that dirty policing in An Garda Síochána went right to the top.

At the Morris Tribunal, retired Garda Patrick Togher said he was told a member of the Garda Complaints Board asked the then Fine Gael leader to warn off his Dáil colleague.
