Teen questioned over school stabbing

Gardaí are investigating the attack on a 17-year-old pupil at St Macdara’s Community College in Templeogue, Dublin on Thursday morning.

The victim, Gary Fitzpatrick from the Limekiln area of Terenure suffered injuries to his stomach during the row, which occurred just before the start of morning classes.

The Leaving Certificate student was brought to Tallaght Hospital, where he was treated for a number of superficial stab wounds, which required stitches.

A spokeswoman for St Macdara’s confirmed that an incident had taken place outside the school building, but on school grounds at around 9.30am, on Thursday.

“It was a fight between two students that happened before school,” said the spokeswoman.

The school said it had taken appropriate disciplinary measures against the students as a result of the incident, but declined to state which specific sanctions had been imposed.

It is understood that gardaí from Terenure interviewed the 16-year-old suspect, who is the son of a prominent businessman with an address in Perrystown, for a second time yesterday afternoon.

He was also questioned in the presence of his parents at Terenure garda station, 24 hours earlier, although he was not formally arrested.

Several students who witnessed the attack have also been questioned. It is believed that a physical row broke out between the two pupils after they exchanged angry words.
