Eleven ASBO warnings since January 1

GARDAÍ have issued 11 behaviour warnings since anti-social behaviour orders (ASBOS) were introduced on January 1, according to new figures.

Behaviour warnings are the first stage of the controversial ASBO system, which was brought in by Justice Minister Michael McDowell in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour.

“I am informed by the garda authorities that there have been 11 warnings issued by members of An Garda Síochána (to adults) since 1 January, 2007, which may, if they do not have the desired effect, result in applications for orders,” said Mr McDowell.
