Carers’ survey: elder abuse common

A SNAPSHOT survey, the first of its kind, shows 85% of doctors who work with elderly people feel that elder abuse is common.

The research, led by renowned geriatric specialist Des O’Neill, is the first to ask workers with the elderly about their knowledge and experience of elder abuse.

There is now a “need for more formal undergraduate and postgraduate education on the topic for doctors,” concluded the Trinity College Dublin work.
