GARDAÍ are failing to crack down on drug-fuelled drivers causing death and mayhem on the nation’s roads, TDs yesterday warned the force’s commissioner Noel Conroy.

Former Fine Gael leader Michael Noonan said drug-driving was now widespread as abuse of illegal substances had become “rampant” across Ireland.

Mr Conroy was urged to introduce a roadside drug-testing kit as he appeared before the Dáil’s influential Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
