Rabbitte promises to triple number of community gardaí to 1,500

LABOUR has promised to triple the amount of community gardaí if returned to power.

Party leader Pat Rabbitte said community gardaí are the key to tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.

Whereas regular policing units are essentially tasked with solving crime and are therefore reactive, community gardaí attempt to stop problems before they develop, he said.
