HSE to begin public nursing home inspections

THE Health Service Executive (HSE) will begin inspecting public nursing homes once new legislation is passed later this year.

Currently, the HSE inspects only private nursing homes, in accordance with existing regulations.

However, Health Minister Mary Harney yesterday introduced new draft standards for nursing homes which will change that situation.
