Top judge placed under 24-hour armed protection

ROUND-THE-CLOCK armed protection was continuing in Limerick last night for Mr Justice Paul Carney, who was in the city for the sittings of the Central Criminal Court.

Mr Justice Carney was staying in an undisclosed hotel in the Limerick area last night and it is believed he will be moved to different hotels during his stay in Limerick as part of the security measures in place for him.

Mr Justice Carney, who is the most senior criminal judge in the country, was placed under armed protection during a recent rape trial in Dublin after gardaí received information.
