McDowell plans community courts to deal swift justice to low-level crime

TÁNAISTE Michael McDowell plans to bring in new US-style community courts to dispense immediate justice to people involved in low-level criminality.

And the Minister for Justice is going to set up a system of neighbourhood cameras in anti-social behaviour ‘hot spots’, similar to those used in Chicago.

Mr McDowell said both he and Garda Commissioner Noel Conroy were very impressed by anti-crime measures they witnessed during a recent visit to the US.
