Archbishop criticises ‘military failure’

THE international community failed the people of Iraq long before the US and Britain launched their military invasion, the Archbishop of Dublin, Most Rev Diarmuid Martin, has said.

Speaking on European Union issues in Dublin yesterday, Dr Martin said that the EU, if it were to be true to its history, should be at the forefront in the promotion of peace.

“The war in Iraq has brought home to us all the limitations and, at times, the utter failure of military intervention as a means to resolve conflict,” he stated.
