Mayor threatens to scupper plan over workers’ payments

THE Mayor of Mallow has vowed to do everything in his power to block Greencore’s plans unless it properly compensates 145 former employees.

The mayor, Cllr Jerry Mullally (Labour), boycotted a business breakfast hosted by the company, yesterday, in protest that former workers have yet to receive their €4.4 million redundancy package.

Cllr Mullally claimed the timing of Greencore’s proposals, which were to be outlined at the breakfast meeting with town councillors, was designed as a “PR exercise to divert attention away from the workers’ plight.”
