Region bucks trend with 2,000 new jobs

MORE than 2,000 jobs were created in the Shannon region last year, bucking a trend of heavy losses that saw industrial employment nationally dip by 2%.

Job creation outweighed job losses and the net gain in the region, which covers the Mid-West, South Offaly and North Kerry, was 575 jobs.

These job figures were disclosed in Shannon Development’s annual report, published yesterday.
