A recently-unveiled memorial to the Great War dead was the scene of tragedy for the family of 26-year-old Trevor Clancy, who fatally stabbed himself and died on the side of the road shortly after 1.10am.

Two simple bunches of lilies and carnations were left outside the Town Park, located at Brian Boru Square, later in the morning, in memory of the local man who had a history of psychiatric illness but no criminal record.
