GARDAÍ were yesterday granted an adjournment of an inquest into the death of a 26-year-old man after they said they needed more time to complete their investigation.

GARDAÍ may have been able to incapacitate a young man who stabbed an officer before killing himself had they used pepper spray, the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI) conference heard yesterday.

A PRIEST yesterday told the funeral of a 26-year-old who stabbed a garda before killing himself in the north Cork town of Fermoy that the officer and his wife had already made contact with the young man’s family to offer their condolences.

THE sergeant stabbed by a man on Sunday who then took his own life, is expected to make a full recovery — but the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors has slammed the Government’s continued failure to protect officers with proper health and safety measures.
