Two killed in weekend collisions

A 26-YEAR-OLD man was killed yesterday morning when the car he was driving was involved in a collision with another vehicle near Bruff in Co Limerick.

The driver of a second car in the crash is in a critical condition in hospital.

The dead man was named as John Buckley from Kilfinane, Co Limerick.

The accident happened at 9.15am at Uregare, between Bruff and Kilmallock.

Gardaí said yesterday the driver of one of the cars involved in the collision was killed instantly.

The other driver, who was on his own, was brought to Limerick Regional Hospital where his condition was described as “critical” yesterday evening.

A male and two female passengers of the deceased’s car are being treated for injuries which are described as not life-threatening.

It’s believed that the cars were travelling in opposite directions when the crash happened.

The road was blocked for several hours yesterday as the scene of the fatal collision was due to be examined by a garda PSV inspector. Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Gardaí were not releasing the identity of the dead man until all relatives were notified.

Meanwhile, gardaí in Cavan are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred at Coranea, Arva at 8.53pm on Saturday.

A 17-year-old male lone driver was fatally injured when the car he was driving collided with a truck.

No other persons were injured. The deceased has been named as local man Patrick Cox.
