NURSES and firemen aren’t earning enough to purchase so-called affordable houses and the scheme needs to be radically altered, according to a report.

The report was complied by a member of Cork County Council, who spent several weeks researching the problems faced by aspiring househunters.

Cllr John Gilroy, a member of the Labour Party, said that a three-bed semi-detached house in Glanmire, classified under the affordable housing scheme, was on offer for €191,000.
